Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

Cascades East has been on the forefront of ultrasound training for years; we are continually striving to develop and improve our curriculae and real-life applications to patient care. We teach annual POCUS workshops through the AAFP’s Family Medicine National Conference, as well as at several other national conferences.

We have monthly trainings on topics as diverse as trauma assessment, bedside echo, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening,  soft tissue and abscess evaluation, obstetrical skills and others. We have an optional "Cascades East Point of Care Ultrasound Certificate” for those who wish to pursue it. Faculty experts do monthly ultrasound clinics with residents, and many residents do electives for additional mastery. Dedicated ultrasound machines, including handhelds are available in the inpatient and outpatient settings to ensure that no opportunity is missed.

Additionally, we partner with the Global Ultrasound Institute’s “GUSI Master Course,” a comprehensive online, on demand POCUS curriculum, to augment our existing curriculum.

Finally, we are actively studying the effects of our in-house training program of resident comfort and competency, so by participating you will help push the whole of family medicine towards Point of Care competency.

If you like being on the cutting edge and pushing your field forwards, POCUS is one of the most exciting opportunities in primary care. Click here for additional details on our curriculum.
