A MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Thank you for your interest in OHSU-Cascades East Family Medicine Residency! We are a program with a passion for comprehensive care in rural and under-resourced settings. We care deeply about training residents to become highly skilled family physicians who will improve the health of the communities in which they serve. We have a strong commitment to community engagement and health equity.
Cascades East has grown since it started in 1994 and continues to be strongly connected to both Oregon Health & Science University as its administering university and Sky Lakes Medical Center as its community hospital. The combination of a strong medical community and populations with significant health care needs makes Klamath Falls a unique setting to practice and train.
This is a time of much change in society and health care and we remain energized by the opportunities to improve the ways that we deliver care and improve health. We found strength in our rural community connections as the hospital, clinics, and public health worked together to increase access to testing and primary care. As we recognize the racial and structural inequities of our system, we humbly reflect on the ways that we can partner with our community to find the courage, creativity, and wisdom that will be needed for healing and new solutions.
We strongly value developing innovative ways to meet healthcare needs and train future family physicians. It is with this same spirit of innovation, education, and service that we embrace the challenges of residency training in these daunting times. We have a strong and supportive group of faculty and residents who take great care of patients, great care of each other and enjoy training, serving, and living in our beautiful rural community.
