Radu serves as the Assistant Medical Director and Program Director for Cascades East and is active in the medical staff leadership of Sky Lakes Medical Center. He has great teaching skills in addiction medicine and implementing chronic pain guidelines. He enjoys time with his spouse and son - skiing, snowboarding, welding, grilling meat and starting new projects of all kinds.

Madeline is originally from Portland and decided that she was meant to live in a smaller community after living in rural Kenya for two years as a science teacher in the Peace Corps. She loves practicing medicine across the lifespan. She also has a special interest in supporting people living with serious illnesses to live as well as possible.

Connor graduated residency at Cascades East in 2017 and was an in-person faculty member through the summer of 2022, when he relocated to be nearer to family for his kids. He’s honored to still have the opportunity to engage residents at Cascades East remotely through the Health Systems Management curriculum, as well as a remote preceptor.
He’s always been passionate about systems level change, serving for two years as Chair of the Department of Medicine at Sky Lakes and now working with IS to improve Epic workflows for clinicians and patients. He particularly loves population health and clinical decision support that is actually helpful.
Brandon Chase, MD

Originally from suburban New York, Brandon received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He spent several years teaching outdoor education and leading international service-learning adventures for teens before attending medical school in Syracuse, NY.
Since 2007 he has been living and practicing medicine in Klamath Falls. He completed residency at Cascades East, then practiced full-spectrum care at a local Federally Qualified Health Center for several years before returning to teach at the residency in 2014. Since then, he has directed Cascades East’s point-of-care ultrasound program and developed a national reputation teaching POCUS with organizations such as AAFP, STFM, AIUM, and GUSI. He has a special interest in office procedures such as vasectomy, skin excisions, and women’s health procedures.
In his free time, he can be found either attending his children's music and sporting events or exploring the outdoors on foot, bicycle, or cross-country skis.

Joyce Hollander-Rodriguez, MD., is an associate professor of family medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine. Originally from a small community in Western Oregon, she attended Stanford for college, earned her medical degree at OHSU in 2000 and completed her residency in Klamath Falls at Cascades East.
Dr. Hollander-Rodriguez and her husband loved Klamath Falls so much that they decided to stay and put down roots. Joyce was the Residency Program Director for Cascades East Family Medicine from 2011 until 2023. She is active in organizations to support community health and hold a certificate of added qualification in Hospice and Palliative Care.
Joyce is passionate about rural health education and community health here in the Klamath Basin. She especially enjoys spending time at her small ranch surrounded by her family and animals: sheep, cattle, dogs, cats, pigeons, and two kids.
She has been working with other on the COMPADRE grant with OHSU and UC Davis and can be seen talking about rural communities here.

Bob started in the Navy, doing his internship and becoming an Undersea Medical Officer and Deep Sea Diver. After four years at the Naval Submarine Medical Research Lab he decided to go inland and complete his residency at Cascades East Family Medicine. His medical interests include lots of procedures and endoscopy of almost any orifice. He enjoys camping and skiing with his wife and two kids, and makes great barbecue and beer. He is the Medical Director for Cascades East Family Medicine.

Originally from a small farming community in Southern California, Maggie stayed in the region after residency and worked for a Federally Qualified Health Center and family medicine residency program. She has since loved her transition to rural Oregon and involvement as teaching faculty for the Cascades East Family Medicine Residency. The possibilities seem endless and she is looking forward to bridging gaps in healthcare and meeting people where they feel most comfortable. She is joined in Oregon by her husband and their spunky young daughter. Together, they enjoy getting outside and exploring the hills, lakes, rivers and other beautiful areas in and around their new home Klamath Falls.

Jean is originally from Rhode Island, but made her way west after college. After working as a Medical Assistant and Registered Nurse, she went on to become a Nurse Practitioner. In her free time, Jean enjoys running, biking, skiing, and cooking with her husband and their dog.

Holly ventured out west for residency and stayed, bringing much of her extended family along with her. She is the Associate Director for residency education, champions the geriatrics curriculum for the residency and has added expertise in palliative care. Kelly grew up in Wyoming and then Klamath Falls, and returned after medical school to do her residency training. She enjoyed being back in the beautiful Klamath basin so much that she decided to stay after residency. She enjoys teaching about care of children and incorporating dermoscopy into practice. She enjoys reading, crafting, hiking, yoga, singing, and spending time with her husband, cat, and golden retriever.

Carrie started her career as a scientist, researching cancers and STDs, but was inspired by the physicians she worked with to go to medical school. She feels much better suited for her current career, where she enjoys practicing the full scope of family medicine for patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatric patients. Her passion is reproductive health care—helping families plan when and whether to have children, preventing unwanted or mistimed pregnancies, helping women and families have the healthiest pregnancies and babies possible, and teaching residents and students to do the same. Of course the real fun of family medicine is getting to watch those patients and families grow up! When she isn’t working, Carrie enjoys yoga, listening to music, playing guitar and flute, and cooking.

Jared grew up on a Christmas tree farm in western Oregon. He and his wife Cassidy ventured to the Midwest for medical school before returning to their beloved state of Oregon for residency. After graduating from Cascades East in 2023, he stayed on as faculty. His interests in medicine include addiction medicine, hospital medicine, inpatient/outpatient procedures, and clinical informatics, among others.
In his free time, he enjoys running, eating/baking/cooking, and spending time with his wife and three children.
Logan Smestad, MD

Logan is originally from a small farming community in southern Minnesota. He went on to medical school at the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus where he spent his third year rotations in Grand Rapids, MN as a part of the Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP). Addressing rural health disparities has always played an important part of his training and now his practice. Logan moved to Klamath Falls with his wife and two german shorthairs upon starting residency and grew to love the mountains and community here. Logan feels lucky to be a part of such a great faculty group and his medical interests include: Hospitalist Medicine, Rural Emergency Medicine and Health Care Advocacy.
Additionally, when Logan isn't in the hospital or clinic you'll likely find him outside chasing his rambunctious son Owen (by bike, ski or foot), and their family GSPs.

Dwight grew up as a missionary kid in Nigeria. After medical school, he practiced rural Family Medicine in Washington and Nevada. He was drawn to teaching and taught in Tacoma, WA and Stockton CA, before he helped start the Alaska Family Medicine Residency Program. He spent 13 years teaching residents there before coming to Cascades East. His family, including 3 teenagers, was drawn to the rural farming atmosphere of Klamath Falls. In his spare time Dwight enjoys collecting rocks and minerals, nature photography, mountain biking, backpacking, cross country skiing, sea kayaking, river rafting or any other adventures in the wilderness. He also swims with the Klamath Basin Masters Swim Team.
Medically, Dr. Smith enjoys teaching procedures, including skin flaps and advancements, POCUS, wilderness medicine, obstetrics, emergency care, and rural/frontier medicine. He also appreciates the value of integrating spiritual care into his practice. He has lectured internationally on rural health, obstetrics and ALSO.

Kiva grew up in rural western Washington and went on to study environmental science at university. Following graduation, she worked for ecological restoration nonprofits in Colorado and then for the natural resource department within the Klamath Tribes. Inspired to work more closely with people, she pursued health care and worked as a Medical Assistant here at Cascades East Family Medicine before completing her Masters Degree in Physician Assistant studies. Kiva is excited to return to Klamath Falls and to serve and learn from this community while striving towards increasing health equity. Her clinical interests include women’s health and contraception as well as addiction medicine.
In her free time she enjoys white water rafting and backpacking in wild places, and traveling with her husband and dog.

Dallas grew up in New Bridge, Oregon - in a valley sandwiched by Hells Canyon and the Wallowa Mountains. After graduating from college at Western Oregon University, he and his wife (Katie) spent their life savings to road trip through Mexico - volunteering on gardens, working in public health and community museums, and learning to surf. After returning to Oregon, Dallas began work for the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality while Katie initially became a high school teacher before transitioning to become a vegetable farmer. After graduation from OHSU medical school and the completion of a Fogarty-Fulbright grant in Tumbes, Peru studying neurocysticercosis - Dallas came to Klamath Falls for residency at CEFM before staying on as faculty. His professional interests are in quality improvement, healthcare and community partnerships, and ultrasound. Outside of work he loves pop music, reading, and cooking, preserving and eating the spare produce from Sweet Union Farm.

Kimberly grew up in Mid-coast, Maine where she became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has built a career as a social service professional. She strongly believes in the relationship between the biological, psychological, and social domains of healthcare; and values the wraparound model of care. Professionally, she is practiced in providing individual and group therapeutic interventions in an integrated behavioral health environment; non-profit administration; and higher education; and is experienced in crisis management, youth and life-skills development, mentoring, assessment, and intervention, as well as, program administration and facilitation. Personally, Kimberly enjoys board games, traveling, reading and having adventures with friends, family, and her dog.
Wendy Warren, M.D.

Dr. Warren received her medical degree from George Washington University and completed her family practice residency at Georgetown University Providence Hospital. Dr. Warren also has her Master’s Degree in social work, which she attained at the University of Michigan prior to medical school. Wendy was in full spectrum private practice including OB at the Klamath Medical Clinic for 17 years before deciding to do locums work and then joining the residency. She works as the Public Health Officer for Klamath County and is a board member of Sky Lakes Medical Center. She oversees the maternal health portion of our curriculum. She periodically replenishes her urban needs by visiting San Francisco. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, running, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Nellie Wirsing, M.D.

Nellie worked as faculty for five years at Cascades East before relocating to Vermont for her partner's residency in radiology. She worked at the University of Vermont as family medicine faculty for those five years before returning to her beloved Klamath Basin. She has received numerous faculty teaching awards across both institutions. She loves spending time with her partner and two wonderful daughters and trying to convince them to hike up Hogsback with her.
